i. Project Background
Finding one’s way through life can often feel overwhelming, especially when mental health challenges make the world feel like a confusing, isolating maze. In collaboration with Helsedirektoratet (The Norwegian Directorate of Health), I created a short animated film that visualizes this emotional journey—highlighting how mental well-being, community, and inclusion are essential to a thriving society.

ii. Process & Result
I was responsible for the project from start to finish, including concept development, art direction, illustration, animation, and final delivery. I also selected the music to enhance the emotional tone but also ensure the film would still be effective without sound.

The film is built around a central visual metaphor: a single sphere navigating a dark, labyrinthine maze—symbolizing the struggle and isolation many feel in life. At the midpoint, the environment transforms: the maze opens into a vibrant, structured community with roads, homes, and other spheres interacting. This pivotal shift represents the transition from solitude to connection, from confusion to belonging.

Using abstract shapes rather than human characters was a deliberate storytelling decision to keep the metaphor inclusive and universally relatable—inviting viewers to project their own experiences without feeling excluded or stereotyped.

The film distilles a complex and sensitive issue into an accessible and emotionally resonant story. For the client it became a valuable communication tool for presenting their proactive work in mental health and inclusion, helping highlight how strengthening individuals contributes to a better society for all.
